Ephesus - Top 10 travel destinations in Turkey

When visiting Ephesus in Turkey, you would be introduced to the ancient Roman civilization. Tourists should drop by The Odeon, which is also known as the Small Theater. This was used in the olden times as a bouleuterion or a venue for council meetings and theatrical presentations. There are also two magnificent fountains near this monument. The Gate of Hercules is another site worth seeing. Two of the pillars there depict Hercules covered in lion skin. Trajan’s Fountain is a two-storey structure and was created in honor of the emperor at the start of the second century. These ruins have been partly restored but only a portion of the Trajan’s foot and its base have been recovered. The fountain was also bedecked with figures of Satyr, Dionysus, and Aphrodite. Another sacred structure in honor of a ruling emperor was the Temple of Hadrian. This temple includes a main chamber and a massive porch. The House of the Virgin Mary or Meryemana is another main spot in this city. It was believed that Mary completed out her days in this residence after moving to Asia Minor with the apostle John. At present, the house was converted into a church and is always full of pilgrims.
