Kalkan - Top 10 travel destinations in Turkey

Kalkan is one place in Turkey that visitors would not forget. Some amazing travel spots here are the ancient sites of Xanthos, Patara, Tlos and Letoon. These places are easily accessible by car and some tour groups offer excursions to those locations. Two extraordinary monuments in Kalkan are the City Gate, which dates back to the Hellenistic Era and the other is the Vespasian’s Arch, which was built to pay tribute to the Roman emperor. Tourists should also drop by the ruins of the Roman Theatre, which is flanked by the city’s three most impressive sites so guests could easily transfer from one place to the next. These are the Harpies’ Tomb, which got its name from the Persian General Harpagus through a controversial analysis of the reliefs in the tomb, the Roman Columned Tomb and the Lycian Tomb. Byzantine Church is another famous attraction in this city. It is known for its incredible mosaic flooring, which has surprisingly remained intact through the years. Patara used to be identified as the major port town of Lycia in Kalkan but as of late, it is better recognized as the birthplace of the Bishop of Myra who is widely known as Santa Claus.
